When analysing performance trends, it’s not always clear what caused a spike or drop in your metrics. With Annotations, you can document key events for a specific date or date range so anyone reviewing the data later understands what happened during that period.
Why use annotations?
Annotations make performance analysis clearer.
Annotations help you to:
Log context around important moments such as product launches or promotions
Track marketing activities or external events that may impact results
Help your team understand the performance changes over time
Over time, this creates a timeline of important events that can be used to understand your marketing performance better.
Get started
On the Overview page, click the Annotations icon and select Manage annotations to open the Annotations page.
Create a new Annotation
Click "Create New Annotation’’ to open the creation form.
To add an annotation:
Select the date in the date picker where the event took place
Enter a name or description for the event
Save the annotation
Your saved annotations are listed on the Annotations page, where you can edit or delete them at any time.
View annotations across the platform
Once you have created an annotation, it appears directly on your metric cards and graphs. You will find them on the Overview, Channel performance, Paid performance, Trends, and Automation performance pages.
Each annotation shows up as a dot on the date it happened, or across a shaded range for events that span multiple days, so you can connect a spike or a drop to the moment behind it without leaving the graph you are looking at. Hover over a dot to see the event name and dates alongside the metric value.
Click the Annotations icon at the top of any page with annotations to control where they appear. Metric Card Annotations and Chart Annotations have their own toggles, so you can keep them on your metric cards while switching them off on your graphs, or the other way round.
